Neil Cotton- Songwriter Information
Biography
Neil was raised in the West-end of Toronto Ontario. He took his first music lesson (lap-steel) when he was 8 years old
but didn’t take up performing until he was 27. He has been with 3 Country-rock bands over the years playing locals bars
on weekends.
During a 31-year career as a High School Science teacher, Neil dabbled in songwriter
but upon retirement in 2000 he took it up in earnest. To this point
in time his catalogue includes more than 100 songs.
During Oct. of
2001 one of his songs received air-play on Southern Ontario radio stations and he performed it LIVE on CHTV. That song was
“Mayor Of Old Yonge Street”
The Internet
has been the biggest exposure for Neil’s songs and a few of his songs have received strong reviewer support.
“Geriatric
Gypsy” was Play of the Day in Folk/Country genre
on
www.garageband.com. It also reached # 1 on www.buzzradio.com
In June of 2004, Neil entered a lyric competition at www.Tunesmith.net and won with “ The Ballad Of Chubby And Bones”.
“Give Half The Song To Me” was in the top
40 on www.cancountry.com radio. GIVE HALF THE SONG TO ME is
being played or has been played on radio in Australia (4 stations), New Zealand (4 stations), Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands,
UK and Sweden thanks to Triplestrand Productions!

Neil Cotton, Eddie Heinzelman and Cheryl Moon won the Tunesmith 2009 songwriting
contest in Nashville with a song called SAY WHEN.
